CAREER JOURNEY

Extending Enterprise Leadership Through Independent Executive and Fractional CIO Work

From May 2022 through May 2025, I worked as a founder, executive advisor, and fractional CIO and CTO across financial services, manufacturing, retail, and emerging technology companies. The portfolio model brought enterprise leadership into focused engagements spanning automation, digital platforms, interim technology leadership, governance, investment assessment, and AI adoption.

CAREER OVERVIEW

Translating Enterprise Experience into Focused Client Outcomes

Following Wells Fargo, I established an independent executive practice built around a simple premise: organizations do not always need a permanent technology executive to make consequential decisions, but they do need experienced leadership, clear governance, and accountable execution.
I advised executive teams, founders, and boards while also stepping into fractional CIO and CTO responsibilities when the work required operating leadership. Engagements ranged from enterprise automation and digital-platform modernization to technology investment assessment, operating-model decisions, and AI readiness.
The work crossed company sizes and industries, but the leadership requirement remained consistent: define the business outcome, establish decision rights, match the solution to the organization’s capacity, and leave the client with stronger capabilities—not dependence on an advisor.

Portfolio Executive Leadership

Served executive teams, founders, and boards across financial services, manufacturing, retail, and emerging technology companies as a fractional CIO, CTO, and executive advisor.

Advisory and Operating Scope

Supported enterprise automation, digital-platform and customer-experience modernization, interim technology leadership, governance and investment assessment, and AI adoption.

ADVISORY JOURNEY

Building a Portfolio Model for Technology Leadership

Independent executive work required a different operating rhythm from a single-enterprise CIO role. Each engagement began by establishing context and decision clarity, then matching the depth of leadership to the client’s immediate needs and ability to sustain the change.

PORTFOLIO OPERATING MODEL

Moving from Enterprise CIO to Independent Executive

Created an advisory and fractional-leadership model that could flex between board-level counsel, executive decision support, interim technology leadership, and hands-on transformation guidance. This preserved the discipline of enterprise leadership while adapting it to shorter, outcome-focused engagements.

ENTERPRISE AUTOMATION

Advancing Automation in Manufacturing

Supported a focused manufacturing engagement centered on robotic process automation. The work connected automation opportunities to operating needs and helped frame technology decisions within the realities of process ownership, adoption, governance, and sustainable execution.

DIGITAL PLATFORM MODERNIZATION

Guiding a Real Estate Platform Engagement

Provided extended advisory and technology leadership for a real estate platform over approximately twelve months. The engagement addressed digital-platform and customer-experience modernization while aligning priorities, investment choices, and delivery expectations with the organization’s capacity.

AI READINESS AND ADOPTION

Preparing Leaders for Agentic AI

Expanded the portfolio into AI education and executive advisory, drawing on structured study in artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, large language models, data strategy, and organizational implications. The emphasis was not experimentation alone, but the governance and leadership decisions required for responsible adoption.

EXECUTIVE ADVISORY

Strengthening Strategy, Leadership, and Digital Presence

Advised leaders on technology strategy, operating models, investment choices, and leadership alignment, and applied the same discipline to digital and website work. Across engagements, the goal was to turn technology questions into clear enterprise decisions and practical next steps.

LEADERSHIP IMPACT

Leadership Principles Refined Through Fractional Work

Portfolio leadership reinforced that fractional work is not a reduced version of a CIO role. It requires rapid context, precise scope, credible judgment, and an explicit plan for transferring capability back to the organization.

Scope Before Solutions

Effective advisory work begins by defining the business decision, desired outcome, constraints, and ownership before selecting technology or launching delivery.

Fractional Leadership Must Transfer Capability

The advisor’s role is to strengthen internal judgment, governance, and execution so progress continues after the engagement ends.

Governance Must Scale with Innovation

Automation and AI create value when decision rights, accountability, risk, data, and adoption evolve alongside the technology.
